Hulegu Khan - Vajrayana Buddhist, Grandson of Chengiz Khan - ended Islamic 'Golden Age' of Caliph

Less Known - Hulegu Khan (1216-1265), a Vajrayana Buddhist practitioner and grandson of Chengiz Khan, sacked Baghdad the capital of the caliphate in five days. He ended the Islamic "golden" age and line of succession from Prophet Mohammad by killing caliph al-Musta'sim. The erection of a Buddhist temple at Ḵoy, Malaysia testifies his interest in that religion. Recent translations of various Tibetan monks' letters and epistles to Hulegu confirms that he was a lifelong Buddhist, following the Kagyu school. Hulegu also patronized Nasir al-Din Tusi and his researches in Maragheh observatory. He himself either still adhered to the shamanist beliefs of his forefathers or was a convert to Buddhism, but his chief wife, Dokuz, was a Nestorian Christian, as Hulagu's mother had been, and special favor was shown to the Christians during his reign. #Indonordicassociation(dot)org
